The Ugly Loaf was born from a lifelong love of baking.
I’ve been baking since I was a little girl, standing on a stool in the kitchen with my mom, mixing simple ingredients and watching something magical come together. What I loved then — and still love now — is how ordinary ingredients can be transformed into something comforting, delicious, and memorable. I miss those moments with my mom, and baking is one of the ways I keep her close.
Today, I bake with my own daughters, passing down that same joy, warmth, and love. Baking has always been about more than food for me — it’s about connection, comfort, and creating memories that last.
So why The Ugly Loaf?
Because I’m not artistic in the least (cake decorating is not my thing). My baked goods aren’t fancy or over-the-top — they’re simple, heartfelt, and made with quality ingredients. They may not look perfect, but I've been told, they taste delicious.
That’s what matters.
The Ugly Loaf is all about baked goods that warm the soul and create core memories — birthdays, holidays, everyday moments, and everything in between. From artisan breads, soft white loaves, and dinner rolls made with wholesome, unprocessed ingredients, to cookies, cakes, sweet breads, and celebration treats, everything is baked with care and intention.
Proudly local in Flagstaff, The Ugly Loaf is for people who care more about flavor than fancy, who love homemade goodness, and who believe the best baked goods don’t need to be pretty — they just need to be made with heart.
We loaf you.
Baking at 7,000 feet isn’t easy — but we’ve learned to embrace it.
At high altitude, dough rises faster, moisture evaporates quicker, and recipes don’t always behave the way they’re supposed to. That’s why every loaf, roll, and treat from The Ugly Loaf is carefully adjusted, tested, and baked specifically for Flagstaff’s elevation.
The result?
Baked goods that rise just right, stay moist, and taste incredible in every single bite.
High altitude may set the rules — but around here, we bake a little differently.
